Assistant Manager Nursing (PHC)

Overview

Manage clinical operations and coordinate nursing care at Dannhauser CHC, overseeing casualty, Mother and Child, and mobile health services.

Requirements

  • Grade 1 Experience: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • At least 6 years’ experience in PHC after obtaining a 1-year qualification in Primary Health Care.
  • At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience at managerial level under PHC.
  • Grade 12 (Senior Certificate).
  • Degree/Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Registration with SANC as a General Nurse.
  • PHC Certificate endorsed by SANC.
  • A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • At least 6 years’ experience in PHC after obtaining a 1-year qualification in Primary Health Care.
  • At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience at managerial level under PHC.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Diploma in Nursing Administration.
  • ICRM programme will be added as an advantage.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Training and Competencies Required for the post: Knowledge of Nursing care processes and procedures, Nursing Acts, Health Act, Nurses Pledge, Patient’s-Right charter, Batho Pele principles etc.
  • Nursing statutes and relevant legal framework.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative framework governing the public services.
  • Knowledge of HR, Finance, Skills development, Labour Relations, Public Service.
  • PHC Guidelines and other prescripts.
  • Conflict, change and people management and decision-making skills.
  • Writing reports and time management, leadership and supervisory skills.

Duties

  • Manage minor and acute, casualty, HAST, Mother and Child, Mobile services and satellite clinics.
  • Delegate, supervise and coordinate the provisioning of effective and efficient patient care through adequate nursing care.
  • Participate in the implementation of the nursing plan, clinical audits, QIP’s and its implementation for quality care.
  • Participate in the formulation of nursing standards, protocols, sops, policies and ensure implementation through monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure that practice in nursing is in accordance with laws and regulations relevant to nursing and health care.
  • Manage and monitor HR and Finance in all relevant clinical areas.
  • Facilitate implementation of ICRM and OHSC monitor process and maintain status and compliance.
  • Facilitate and oversee the development of Nursing Operational plan in the relevant clinical areas and satellite clinics.
  • Monitor and ensure data collection and adherence to Data Management Principles.
  • Coordinate and engage Sukuma Sakhe promoting activities/ events within the community.
  • Facilitate and monitor implementation of PHC re-engineering.
  • Monitor implementation of clinical governance in the units and satellite clinics.
  • Provide guidance and leadership towards the realization of strategic goals and objectives.
  • Delegate, supervise and coordinate the provision of effective, efficient quality of care.
  • Establish, maintain and participate in inter-professional and multi-disciplinary teamwork that promotes Health Care.
  • Provide strategic leadership in delivery of integration DHS based on relevant policy imperatives.
  • Reduce burden of diseases by implementing the integrated multi stakeholder HEALTH promotion well-being strategy (IMHPWS) fully in your subdistrict and implementation of health program and service package within the subdistrict.
  • Ensure effective, efficient and economical management of allocated resources- HRM, HRD, Budget, Transport, Equipment etc. within the subdistrict.
  • Monitor and evaluate the PHC activities.
  • Management of Records, Data performance information within the subdistrict.

Medical Registrars - Training will take place at various sites for each discipline. Registrars may be required to spend time at various training institutions as required by the discipline. The site for the 1st year of training and subsequent rotations will be determined by the Academic Head of Discipline. Applicants are requested to apply separately for the disciplines of their interest. A maximum of three applications will be allowed which should be ranked in order of preference. One application for various Disciplines will not be accepted. Applications from applicants who are already appointed in the Registrar Programme will not be considered. As per HPCSA Regulations, the duration of Registrar training is 4/5 years, depending on the Discipline. All Registrars will be expected to register with the university for the MMED at own expense. All Registrars will be required to sign a contract which includes training and service responsibilities. Registrars will be required to complete Performance Agreements and assessments as stipulated by the Department. Appointments are subject to the signing of a contract which includes a service pay-back period. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments.
