Fire Safety Coordinator

Overview

Coordinate fire safety initiatives by monitoring and supporting municipalities with fire and rescue service plans, legislative frameworks and strategies.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate must be in possession of an appropriate National Diploma (NQF 6) in Fire Technology as recognised by SAQA coupled with 2 years experience in Fire and Rescue services and a valid C1 Drivers Licence.
  • Essential Knowledge, Skills And Competencies Required: The successful candidate must have: Sound knowledge of Disaster Management Act;
  • Fire Brigade Act;
  • Knowledge of Fire and Rescue Services procedures;
  • Public Service Act;
  • Municipal Regulations and policies;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret policies;
  • Minute taking and report writing skills;
  • Good organisational skills, office management and document tracking;
  • Capacity building;
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) with municipalities, Traditional Institutions, Public, Private sector staff and management;
  • Good computer literacy in MS Office (Ms Word, Ms Excel and PowerPoint).

Duties

  • The successful candidate will be required to support municipalities and stakeholders with fire and rescue services with the following responsibilities: Monitor, evaluate and provide support with the development and implementation of plans, legislative frameworks and strategies for fire and rescue services within the Province;
  • Implement and support municipalities with fire safety and services capacity building programmes;
  • Support with establishment and maintenance of IGR structures in fire and rescue services;
  • Support municipalities with coordination of response capabilities;
  • Provide technical support for compliance with National and Provincial imperatives.

All shortlisted candidates for SMS posts will be subjected to a technical exercise and interview. Following the technical exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioural preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity.
