Overview
Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 specialising in Occupational Health, based at Bellville Health Park under the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness.
Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683+R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC Occupational Health Nursing Science. (R212).
- OR - A 4 -year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R1497 or R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. - A postgraduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Occupational Health Nursing.
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.
- Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in Occupational Health Nursing.
- At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
- Inherent requirements of the job: Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license.
- Required to travel to provide support within the geographical area of the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services.
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Practical knowledge of Occupational Health and Risk Management.
- Good understanding of the District Health Service (DHS).
- Knowledge of the ethical and legal framework of the Acts, Regulations, Rules, and policies that governs Occupation Health and Safety.
- Experience in OHS.
- Computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office).
Duties
- Provide and maintain an effective Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management programme within the Metro District.
- Support the implementation of the immunisation and medical surveillance programmes for staff.
- Ensure an effective provision, coordination, and management of the clinical occupational health services.
- Ensuring effective administration of the occupational health service.
- Participate in Health Risk Assessments within the district.
- Assist in the competency and skill assessment, identification of the need and advice on the education and training of staff.
- Maintains a sound Continuous Professional development.
