Overview
Medical Specialist in Psychiatry sought for Khayelitsha District Hospital, Western Cape, to deliver specialist-level clinical psychiatric services and clinical governance across the district.
Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with HPCSA, as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry, after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee).
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry, after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign-qualified employee).
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Clinical experience in Psychiatry at district level services and clinical primary health care.
- Ability to render high-quality specialist level clinical care in the in- and out-patient setting, including good legislative & policy knowledge, medical record keeping, report writing and computer literate.
- Ability to balance the outputs of a large clinical workload with the teaching and supervisory requirements of the position.
- Strong administrative, managerial, communication and conflict resolution skills.
Duties
- Clinical service delivery at specialist level across the full spectrum of district level Psychiatry, including wards, outpatients, Emergency Centre and specialised clinics at Khayelitsha District Hospital.
- Administrative & clinical governance including leadership, People Management processes, OPD management, data analysis, and quality improvement.
- Teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff and students with participation in the hospital academic program as well as outreach supervision to primary health care nurse practitioners.
- Domain specific outputs and participation within the KESS ecosystem, including participation in and alignment with district-hospital-level services, referral facilities and Mental Health Care Review Board liaison.
