Accounting Clerk: Banking and Cash

Overview
Accounting Clerk needed by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure to process financial claims, maintain ledger accounts and provide bookkeeping support.
Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent qualification) with Mathematics and/or Accounting as subjects passed;
- A valid driving license (Code B or higher).
- Competencies: A good understanding of the following: Financial functions, practices as well as the ability to capture data, operate computer and collate financial statistics;
- Public Service financial legislations, procedures and processes, National Treasury Regulations, Provincial Treasury Instructions, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), 1999,(DORA, PSA, PSR, PPPFA, Financial Manual);
- Financial operating systems and data base management;
- Skills needed: Computer literacy (MS Office);
- Planning and organising;
- Good verbal and written communication;
- Basic Numeracy;
- Ability to capture data and collate financial statistics;
- Ability to operate office equipment and Ability to work under pressure.
Duties
- Render Financial Accounting transactions: Process financial claims in accordance with applicable prescripts and ensure all supporting documentation is complete and accurate;
- Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts to ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions;
- Perform Bookkeeping support services: Accurately capture all financial transactions into the relevant financial operating systems;
- Clear suspense and ledger accounts timeously by investigating and resolving reconciling items.
