Overview

Operational Manager position at Mambedwini Clinic under Appelsbosch Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal, requiring a nursing qualification and at least 9 years of experience.

Requirements

  • Degree/National Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Only shortlisted candidate will submit proof of current registration with SANC (2026) as a Professional Nurse and Midwifery.
  • A Post Basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year in Curative skills in Primary Health Care accredited with SANC Experience: A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • At least 5 years of the period referred above must be appropriate /recognisable after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant specialty.
  • Certificate of Service endorsed by Human Resource as proof of experience.

  • Additional information Diploma in Nursing Management, Computer literacy.
  • Valid Driver’s license Code B (08) will serve as a recommendation.

Duties

  • Assist in planning, organising and monitoring of objectives of the specialised unit/department.
  • Manage all resources within the unit effectively and efficiently to ensure optimum service delivery.
  • Ability to plan and organise own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper nursing care.
  • Display a concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care.
  • Monitor Provision of quality comprehensive service delivery at PHC clinic.
  • Participate actively in Operation Sukuma Sakhe programme.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure good nursing care.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with patients, community and multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor safe patient service and improve client satisfaction.
  • Participate in the attainment of Norms and Standards (OHSC).
  • Contribute to the realization of Ideal Clinic (ICRM) status.
  • Participate in the analysis and formulation of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct and indirect supervision of all staff within the unit and give guidance.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Human Resource and Financial Management Policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the care and management of all patients through clinical audits.
  • Ability to supervise PHC emergencies and refer appropriately.
  • Monitor implementation of PHC Re-Engineering Monitor implementation and performance on indicators on daily, weekly and monthly basis; provide feedback to management, analyse data and draw up quality improvement plan and implementation plan.
  • Exercise control of discipline and any other Labour Related issues in terms of laid down procedures.
  • Ensure complaint management is functional in the Clinic Ensure functionality of the Clinic committee programme so that community involvement and participation is achieved.

Medical Registrars - Training will take place at various sites for each discipline. Registrars may be required to spend time at various training institutions as required by the discipline. The site for the 1st year of training and subsequent rotations will be determined by the Academic Head of Discipline. As per HPCSA Regulations, the duration of Registrar training is 4/5 years, depending on the Discipline. All Registrars will be expected to register with the university for the MMED at own expense. All Registrars will be required to sign a contract which includes training and service responsibilities. Registrars will be required to complete Performance Agreements and assessments as stipulated by the Department. Appointments are subject to the signing of a contract which includes a service pay-back period. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments.
