Accounting Clerk

Overview

Accounting Clerk needed in Pretoria to handle financial transactions, invoice processing, and salary administration support within the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of financial functions, ability to capture data and ability to collate financial stats.
  • Basic knowledge of Public financial legislations, procedures and treasury regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic financial operating system (PERSAL, BAS, LOGIS etc.).
  • Knowledge of working procedure in terms of the working environment and understanding of legislative framework governing the Public Service.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Planning and organizing, interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidentiality, time management and ability to work under pressure.

Duties

  • Render financial accounting transactions.
  • Receive invoices, check invoices for correctness, verification and approval.
  • Process invoices (e.g. capture payments).
  • Perform salary administration support services.
  • Receive salary advices, process advices (e.g. check advices for correctness, capture salaries, bonuses, salary adjustments and capture all deductions etc.).
  • Filing of documents.
  • Perform bookkeeping support services.
  • Capture all financial transactions.
  • Clear suspense accounts, record debtors and creditors.
  • Process electronic banking transections and compile journals.
  • Render Internal Control.
  • Perform activities attached to improving control environment of payments for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide assistance in identifying control mechanisms to reduce possible non-compliance.
  • Develop, update and maintain an effective filing system /system control for the Directorate.

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified documents on or before the day of the interviews following communication from the Department. Failure to submit the requested documents/information will result in your application not being considered. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the candidate being disqualified. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. Following the interview and technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend the most suitable candidate. Short-listed candidates will be subjected to a security clearance. The Secretary of Police Service has the right not to fill the post. All posts are based in Pretoria.
