Overview

Two professional nurse positions in theatre at Worcester Regional Hospital, requiring a nursing diploma or degree and a post-basic operating theatre qualification.

Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre (R212).
  • OR A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • A post graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Perioperative Nursing.
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
  • Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
  • At least 10 years of the period above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre Nursing.
  • Inherent requirements of the job: Ability to work shifts during the day and night, weekends and public holidays and overtime when required by supervisor.
  • Expected to function rotate within the Functional Business Unit of Theatre.
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge and understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices within a hospital environment.
  • Critical thinking and good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills.

Duties

  • Provision of optimal, holistic specialised nursing care within the professional, ethical and legal framework and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Effective utilisation of all resources.
  • Provide support to Nursing Services ensuring quality productivity.
  • Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development.
  • Participation in training, including mentoring and research.
