Overview

Regional Manager sought to oversee correctional service inspections, investigations and ICCC performance management in KwaZulu-Natal, requiring a degree and five years' experience.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 12 (Senior Certificate), bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Criminology/Penology/Public Administration/Public Management/Corrections Management or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
  • Will serve as an advantage: Postgraduate qualification in Public Management, Corrections, Criminology or Governance, Management Development Programme.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in corrections, criminal justice, oversight, inspections, investigations, compliance monitoring or related environment.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience at Assistant Director level or equivalent supervisory/management level.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Experience managing personnel, coordinating operational activities, producing management reports and engaging stakeholders at management level.
  • Strong recommendation experience in correctional services, human rights monitoring, inspections and investigations, complaints management and compliance monitoring.
  • Skills and competencies: strategic capability, leadership and people management, programme and project management, financial management, change management, stakeholder management, report writing, conflict resolution, investigation and analytical skills, decision making, communication skills, policy interpretation, public sector administration, computer literacy and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Duties

  • Manage and coordinate regional oversight, inspection, investigation, complaints and mandatory reporting programmes.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCVs) and Visitors' Committees within the region.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and represent JICS in regional forums and structures.
  • Monitor compliance with the Correctional Services Act, JICS policies and relevant legislative frameworks.
  • Manage the implementation of corrective actions arising from inspections, investigations, complaints and mandatory reporting processes.
  • Manage the human, financial, asset and administrative resources of the region.
  • Compile and submit regional performance, oversight and management reports.
  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Director: Regional Coordination and Oversight.
