Senior Manager: Medical Services

Overview

Lead and manage clinical services and medical teams at Port Shepstone Hospital, ensuring compliance with policies, protocols and statutory regulations.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or Equivalent, MBChB degree or equivalent.
• A valid and current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
• A minimum of three (03) years after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
• Unendorsed valid Code EB Driver’s Licence (Code 8), Post graduate diploma/ degree in management will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge, Skills And Experience Possess sound knowledge of the relevant Acts, Policies and Regulations administered by the KZN Department of Health.
• Possess sound knowledge of the District Health System.
• Possess sound knowledge of legislation relating to the practice of Medicine in South Africa.
• Have good communication, leadership, decision-making, team building and motivation skills.
• Be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Software Applications.

Duties

• Ensure the provisions of protocols and guidelines to the Medical and Allied Professions team.
• Formulate policies and procedures for the clinical services and ensure that they are in accordance with current statutory regulations and guidelines.
• Provide leadership, management and support to all Cluster Managers, Clinical Heads, Clinical Managers, Pharmacy, Allied Professionals and all staff under their supervision.
• Conduct service assessment and implement quality improvement programmes.
• Liaise with other stakeholders within and outside the Department of Health such as Chief Specialists, other stakeholders within and outside the Department of Health such as Chief PUBLIC Specialists, other hospital management teams, the Health District office and Medical School on medical management issues.
• Ensure optimal use of resources, both human and financial.
• Ensure continuous monitoring of morbidity and mortality rates through clinical audits.
• Formulate strategic plans in keeping with the requirements of the hospital and the department as directed by the Mission Statement.
• Ensure that cost-effective service delivery is maintained within the hospital.
• Maintain discipline and deal with grievances and Labour Relations issues in terms of the laid down procedures and policies.
• Ensure compliance with National Core Standards in the Clinical and Allied Health disciplines.
• Comply with PMDS policy in respect of all Managers and HOD under span of control.
