- Lei die ontwikkeling en uitvoering van omvattende bemarkings- en publieke verhoudingsstrategieë.
- Verseker dat alle bemarkings- en publieke verhoudingsbeleide, riglyne en standaarde in ooreenstemming met toepaslike voorskrifte ontwikkel word en op die departement se strategiese doelwitte uitgelyn is.
- Monitor die implementering en verseker nakoming van toepaslike beleide en richtlyne.
- Evalueer bemarkings- en publieke verhoudingsstrategieë en -prosesse om dit voortdurend te verbeter.
- Hou toesig oor die koordinasie van die departement se bemarking om bewustheid en publieke verhoudinge te bevorder: Hou toesig oor die beplanning van bemarkings- en publieke verhoudingsveldtogte.
- Bestuur die koordinasie van bemarkings- en publieke verhoudingsopnames en ontleding van die departement se openbare beeld en reputasie.
- Bestuur die gebruik van korporatiewe advertensies om die departement se korporatiewe identiteit in die openbare domein te vestig en te handhaaf.
- Hou toesig oor die produksie van geskrewe en visuele kommunikasiemateriaal vir bemarking en publieke verhoudinge.
- Verseker dat dokumente en bemarkingsmateriaal huidig, akkuraat is en die departement se merk en gewenste boodskap behoorlik weerspieël.
- Bestuur die koordinasie van alle departementele en Ministers Public Participation Programmes (MPPP).
- Bestuur die opbou van die departement se korporatiewe identiteit en werk aan die handhaaf van 'n positiewe beeld: Vestig en handhaaf goeie belanghebbendeverhoudinge.
- Reageer op versoeke om inligtingsvrystelling met betrekking tot bemarking en publieke verhoudinge.
- Hou toesig oor die bevordering van die departement se beeld deur publieke deelname aan spesiale publisiteitsgeleenthede en uitstallings.
- Bestuur die ontwikkeling van programme om positiewe publieke en aandeelhouersienings van die departement se agenda en prestasies te handhaaf.
- Verseker merknakoming volgens die riglyne vir korporatiewe identiteit.
- Bestuur die korporatiewe identiteitspromosiemateriaal.
- Verskaf advies aan belanghebbendes oor riglyne vir korporatiewe identiteit.
- Bestuur die Direktoraat: Vestig en handhaaf toepaslike interne beheermaatreëls en verslagdoeningstelsels om prestasieverwagtinge te bereik.
- Bestuur van prestasie en ontwikkeling.
- Vestig, implementeer en handhaaf doeltreffende en effektiewe kommunikasiereëlings.
- Ontwikkel en bestuur die operasionele plan van die direktoraat en doen verslag oor vordering soos vereis.
- Stel alle vereiste administratiewe verslae op en dien dit in.

Entry level requirements for SMS posts: in terms of the Directive on Human Resource Management and Development on Public Service Professionalisation Volume 1 a requirement for appointment into SMS posts is the successful completion of the Senior Management Pre-Entry programme as endorsed by the National School of Governance (NSG). The course is available at the NSG under the name Certificate for entry into SMS and the full details can be obtained by following the below link: https: www.thensg.gov.za/training –course /sms-pre-entry programme/. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. All shortlisted candidates for SMS posts will be subjected to a technical exercise and interview. Following the technical exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioural preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity.
