• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre.
• OR A 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Peri-operative Nursing.
• Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.
• Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate /recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate /recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in an Operating Theatre Unit after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in the relevant speciality.
• Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to carry small kids.
• Willingness to work in Operating Theatre and Recovery room.
• Willingness to assist Dentist in surgery when needed.
• Valid drivers’ licence.
• Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
• Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the theatre with regard to emergency and non- emergency operating nursing, as well as day patient care.

• Provide an optimal, holistic, specialised Nursing Care within set standards and within a professional, legal framework as a Professional Nurse in an Operating Theatre.
• Provision of a Quality Dental Service.
• Periodically supervise and support effective utilisation of Human Resources.

• Participate in training and Oral Health Promotion activities.
• Practice Nursing and health care in accordance with the laws and regulations relevant to nursing and health care.
• Support outreach services done.
