Overview
Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology needed at Victoria Hospital, Western Cape, to coordinate gynaecology services and provide clinical training across the Metro West ecosystem.
Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Inherent requirements of the job: Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license, willingness and ability to travel.
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Ability to care for Obstetric and Gynaecology patients, including elective, emergency and high-risk cases.
- Ability to perform necessary Obstetric and Gynaecology ultrasound scans.
- Possess surgical competency in terms of elective, emergency and complicated Obstetric and Gynaecology cases.
Duties
- To coordinate a safe, efficient, cost-effective and appropriate Gynaecology service to patients at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
- To perform overtime duties, including Obstetric and Gynaecology duties, in the broader Metro West ecosystem.
- To conduct teaching and training of staff and students in the medical and surgical care of Obstetric and Gynaecology patients.
- To assist with effective and efficient administration of the Gynaecology service at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
- To ensure the rational use of resources (medical/surgical sundries and equipment).
- To provide innovation and improvement strategies in the care of patients in the Gynaecology service at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
