Overview
Director of Legislation required to manage drafting of public administration legislation and provide legal advice at the Department of Public Service and Administration.
Requirements
- A minimum qualification at NQF Level 7 in Law, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or a Bachelor of Procurationis (B. Proc).
- Minimum 5 years at a middle or senior managerial level.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in Legislative drafting.
- Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate.
- Knowledge of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Drafting conventions applicable in South Africa, Public Administration and other relevant/related legislation.
- Strategic priorities of Government.
- Must have sound understanding of operations management.
- Must have an understanding of drafting Public Administration legislation including bills and regulations.
- Must have managerial skills decision making, problem solving, written and verbal communication, Stakeholder management and coordination, Strategic thinking and leadership, analytical skills, interpersonal relations, teamwork, confidentiality, financial management, human resource management, research, change management and project and program management.
- Generic skills: Diversity management, communication and information management, interpersonal relations, facilitation, negotiation, presentation, report writing, computer literacy and conflict management.
- Technical skills: Legislative drafting, legislative processes and legislation scrutiny.
Duties
- To manage drafting of Public Administration legislation.
- Review legislation administered by the Minister for the Public Service and Administration.
- Provide legal advice on matters concerning public administration legislation.
- Manage all the operations, systems, and processes of the directorate.
- Attend departmental management structures and any other meetings as directed.
- Participate in inter-departmental and intra-departmental committees, tasks, and project teams as nominated.

Following the technical exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioural preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity. Candidates will also be subjected to personnel suitability checks on criminal records, citizen verification, financial records, qualification verification and applicants could be required to provide consent for access to their social media accounts.
