Overview

Professional Nurse (Grades 1 to 3) needed at Mowbray Maternity Hospital to provide holistic HIV/AIDS outpatients care, education and nursing support.

Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • Or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R1497 or R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
  • Experience: Grade 1: None.
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
  • Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
  • Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work shifts, public holidays, after hours, night duty and weekends when required.
  • Willingness to work overtime if needed.
  • Willingness to rotate to other wards when required.
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Computer literacy.
  • Planning and organisational skills.
  • The ability to function independently under pressure.
  • Knowledge and insight into protocols and policies pertaining to nursing practices in a hospital setting.

  • To provide holistic, quality health care and education according to individual needs of patients, family and the community.
  • Effective utilization of resources.
  • Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self- development.
  • Provide support to Nursing Services.
  • Participate in training and research.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and perform administrative duties.
