Household AID (WASTE Management)

Overview

Household aid needed at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital to handle waste transportation, segregation, and disposal with compulsory shift work including weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Experience: Appropriate experience in waste management in a Hospital/Clinic environment.
  • Inherent requirements of the job: Compulsory shift work, flexible hours, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Physical, mentally, and emotionally fit to provide essential services.
  • Willingness to do manual Labour (push heavy HCRW trolleys) and assist in other departments when required.
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Ability to participate and work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of healthcare waste regulations and OHS standards.

Duties

  • Perform internal transportation, handling, and disposal of waste in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Contribute to the achievement of waste reduction and recycling targets through proper segregation and compliance with waste management practices.
  • Ensure the correct and safe waste methods of waste segregation, storage, transport, and disposal of waste.
  • Ensure that the waste is collected in the prescribed containers at the point of generation.
  • Collect and manage all categories of waste, including Health Care Risk Waste (HCRW), domestic/general waste, and recyclable waste.
  • Ensure HCRW containers are correctly weighed within prescribed limits, properly sealed, and handled to prevent health and safety risks.
  • Maintain strict hygiene control of all waste handling equipment, trolleys, and related materials.
  • Ensure that all waste storage areas are kept clean, orderly, and securely locked when not in use.
  • Provide effective support and assistance to service providers and ensure accurate record keeping of all waste management activities.
